Argyll & Bute HSCP Overspend
The Argyll & Bute Health & Social Care Partnership (A&B HSCP), which provides NHS and social care services in Argyll & Bute, has recently reported that it expects to face an £18 million budget gap when the Scottish Budget is released early in the New Year. This news has come as quite a shock to a lot of people across Argyll & Bute. As a result of this overspend, it is considering cutting your key services to shore up its finances. As the Labour candidate to become your next MSP, I’m interested to know your opinion on this matter, as well as some of your thoughts about NHS services in Argyll & Bute more generally – as I know there are more than a few issues that need addressed. Which of these NHS services have you, or someone close to you, used in the past year?
Were you aware of the potential £18 million overspend by the Argyll & Bute HSCP?
Do you agree that the emergency response service (telecare) should be cut as a result of this overspend, as has been proposed as an option?
Telecare is a 24-hour service where people who may be unable to call for help carry devices that alert a response team when there is an emergency. They can attend and help, and can bring more assistance if needed. The service alleviates pressure on emergency services and provides assurance for vulnerable people and their families. It employs around 40-50 people in Argyll & Bute and answers in excess of 3700 calls every month.
Do you agree that dementia day centre services should be cut as a result of this overspend, as has been proposed as an option?
Dementia day centres provide support and respite care for people suffering from dementia, allowing them a chance to socialise as well as giving their families an opportunity to receive much-needed backup and a welcome break whilst caring for their loved ones.
